February 19th Charity fund raising
On the 19th February Lee, one of the directors at YorCyberSec, will be spending 24 hours on a bike in aid of Sunshine & Smiles one of the most amazing charities, doing some fantastic work and offering the highest level of support and opportunities to people within the Leeds Down Syndrome Network.
Lee will be doing this at 21 Co. in Headingley Leeds. 21 Co. is a cafe and shop run for and by people with Down Syndrome to offer training and work experience with the aim of creating job opportunities. 21 Co is part of the Leeds Down Syndrome Network.
Sunshine & Smiles provides a support network in Leeds for children and young people who have Down Syndrome and their families. Until they were founded by a small group of parents, Leeds did not have a support network to help children and families living with Down Syndrome. Sunshine & Smiles fulfil this important need and provides a vital role in the community.
They organise free groups and events to improve the lives and opportunities of children and families living with Down syndrome in Leeds. This includes speech and language therapy, regular groups and activities, individual support and advocacy for families, as well as raising awareness and challenging preconceptions in the wider community.
The sessions can include; football, dance, swimming, music, singing, and structured play for younger children.
Being a small charity Sunshine and Smiles rely on the kindness and generosity of people to continue doing the great work. This will be the second event that YorCyberSec has done for Sunshine and Smiles and it will be the hardest test for Lee, so far.
There are some great companies offering their support for this event, including Chevin Cycles who are lending a turbo trainer and revolutionary cycling clothing and apparel company SpatzWear who are offering a prize of either a BaseZ 2 or the new Spatz GlovZ. To enter into this raffle draw all you have to do is donate a minimum of £5.
